The Tokyo Art Museum

Tokyo National Museum The Tokyo National Museum collects, houses, and displays a comprehensive collection of art works and antiquities from Japan as well as other Asian countries. The web site home page also has many special features about upcoming exhibits and special events.

  1. eMuseum This site has masterpieces from Japan's four national museums - Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Kyushu. The categories are: painting, calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, metalwork, swords, ceramics, lacquerware and textiles. Click on one and it will take you to thumbnails of national treasures. Select one and click to learn more about the artwork. There's a great "Zoom" tool that lets you examine the artwork in detail.

  2. Tokyo National Museum Collection There are 600 works of art featured in this online collection. In addition to the categories in the eMuseum, you can also view the categories Arms and Armour and Other Decorative Arts. There are no curator's notes for these artworks, just the image and artist, date, etc.
