The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco


 

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are actually two museums reached by the same home page. Together they have a wonderful library of artworks that you can view and printout. The ImageBase can search for art by artist, period, type or concept, such as "self-portrait" or "warriors." They have over 22,000 artworks in the database.

  1. The Legion of Honor Museum displays an impressive collection of 4,000 years of ancient and European art in an unforgettable setting overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Their collections include: European Painting, European Decorative Arts, Ancient Art (ancient Mediterranean and Near East), and a collection of illustrated books (artists' books from the past century with original prints).

  2. The de Young Museum specializes in collections of American art from the 17th through the 20th centuries, and art of the native Americas, Africa, and the Pacific.
