National Museum of Japanese History

National Museum of Japanese History is a research institution with graduate study programs. But they do have a good section on the Rekihaku screens showing the everyday life in Kyoto in the Muromachi Period.

The Gallery is a thorough guide to the Rekihaku screens of scenes in and around Kyoto from the 16th century. You must click on the plus sign so that you can zoom in for great detail. There are other folding screens with scenes of Edo and a panorama of Edo Castle..
