  1. Far Eastern Art Chinese art in this web gallery ranges from the Neolithic period (third millennium B.C.) to the twentieth century. Included are jades, ceramics, bronzes, sculptures, carved lacquers, paintings, and textiles. The Japanese art collection dates from the fifteenth century to modern times. The majority of the pieces are from the Edo period (1615-1868), an important era of social and economic change which paved the way for a modern Japan.
