The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is one of our nation's oldest and largest museums. Their website is extensive. These are their Western Art collections:

  1. Art of Europe scroll down below the introductory essay to click on the highlights of the decorative arts and of painting.

  2. Art of the Americas has two areas for Western art: American Decorative Arts and Sculpture and American paintings. Look to the right to click on the area you wish to see.

  3. Art of the Ancient World features work from the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Look to the right to click on the area you wish to see.

  4. Contemporary Art features works from the past 50 years. Scroll down below the introductory essay to click on the highlights of this collection.

  5. Prints, Drawings and Photographs houses an encyclopedic collection of works on paper—prints, drawings, watercolors, photographs, illustrated books and posters of American and European origin dating from the 15th century to the present. Look to the right to click on the area you wish to see.

  6. Online Tours are available. They are organized by department and then by theme. Scroll down, there are many, many tours, some organized by a specific artist, such as Picasso and Degas.

  7. Searchable Database contains information about 327,917 artworks - but not all of them have photographs of the object. You can search by category, such as ceramics, costumes, jewelry, pastels and sketchbooks.
