The Minneapolis Institute of Art The institute is a comprehensive museum, with art from 5,00 years of world history. There are 2,000 works available online. These departments have wonderful Western artworks:

  1. Ancient Art includes beautiful artworks from Egypt, Greece, Rome and the Ancient Middle East. The curators' notes are very informative. Scroll down and click on "Browse the Collection."

  2. Architecture, Design, Decorative Arts, Craft and Sculpture is the largest and most diverse collection in the museum, with more than 10,000 works in all media from America and Europe, from the Middle Ages to the present. Scroll down and click on "Featured Works" or "Browse the Collection."

  3. Paintings and Modern Sculpture collection contains nearly 900 European and American works from the 14th century to the present. Scroll down and click on "Featured Works" or "Browse the Collection."

  4. Prints and Drawings include woodcuts, engravings, etchings, lithographs, screenprints, drawings, watercolors, pastels, monotypes, multiples, artists' books, and rare books from early 14th-century illuminated manuscripts to contemporary works.   5. Photography spans the history of the medium as fine art, from the 1860s to the present. Representing more than 800 photographers and 8,500 works of art, the collection consists primarily of 20th-century American work, but there is an increasing emphasis on photographs from all countries.
