Station #3: This station was on a cliff overlooking a magnificent seascape of Edo Bay. One side of the highway was lined with two storied teahouses, which took full advantage of the sweeping views of the beautiful bay. The area was noted for its bountiful fishing and pleasurable sightseeing. However, it must be a slow day, as the inn maids are a bit aggressive as they recruit customers for their restaurants. The two bluffs beyond the inns became the port of Yokohama when Japan was opened to trade with the West in 1858. The shogun did not want the foreigners to interfere with travel on the Tokaido.
