The Web Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database of European painting and sculpture of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods (1100-1850), currently containing over 15,400 reproductions. There are commentaries on pictures and excellent biographies of artists. Most digital images are clear with great color.

Look across the top of the home page and click "Tours." There are 15 excellent tours organized by region (Italy, Spain, France, Britain) and by world treasures, such as the Sistine Chapel and the Brancacci Chapel.

Look to the botton of the home page and you'll see how to search by artist, either through an index (if you are not sure how to spell the name) or directly by Quick Search.
